On Saturday the Colts and First XV competed for the Poppy Dagger and Poppy Sword trophies, either side of the well attended Remembrance ceremony when the Rockcliff and Westoe teams lined up alongside Adam Serfontein, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, representatives from the Royal British Legion and their sponsors for the day Newcastle Building Society, the Reverend Mairi Howell from St Pauls Church, and club and match officials.
The Colts faced a tough task against a well drilled Northern side who ran out winners, with the final score 39 12 in their favour. The Colt’s tries came from Jackson Nelson and Riley Cole, who scored the try of the match, running the ball in from his own half. Josh Meredith converted Cole’s try.
The First XV regained the Poppy Sword tile and took four league points in a closely fought game against Westoe. A full match report is on the team page.
Meanwhile at Percy Park the Vikings kept up their recent good form with a 41 10 win against Newcastle Ravens in CANDY 3 North. The Vikings scored seven tries and three conversions, with Alfie Bell and Michael Cooper scoring two tires each, and Beau Malby and Darren Mee scoring one try each. The seventh try was a penalty try. Michael Marvell converted three tries, one of which was a magnificent kick from the touch line. Brad Burrows was player for the match for the Vikings.
On Sunday the Roses travelled to Consett and came away with a 43 0 victory, maintaining their 100% league form this season. A full match report is on the team page.
